
Walter T Bailey was born in Kewanee in 1882, graduated from Kewanee High School in 1900, and the University of Illinois in 1904. He was the first African American graduate of the U of I Architectural School. He went on to become an accomplished architect and educator at the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee Alabama, (today it’s Tuskegee University).
